A green parrot was recently “arrested” after police raided a drug den run by a local couple in northern Brazil.

According to Brazilian press reports, the “obedient” parrot was taught to alert crack dealers to police operations taking place in Vila Irmã Dulce, Brazil. If there were law enforcement officials nearby, the bird would shout “Mum, the police!” in Portuguese to its owners, The Guardian noted. The parrot, which didn’t have a name, was taken into custody following the incident.

When the police came near the two-winged wrongdoer, it started shouting immediately. Despite not making a sound after the raid, the parrot sadly didn’t spare its owners: Officials arrested a teenage girl and an unnamed man and seized small bags of crack from their home, The Washington Post reported.

While the parrot was in custody, it reportedly wasn’t engaging with officials, according to VICE. Alexandre Clark, a local vet, said the parrot didn’t cooperate during his stay: “Lots of police officers have come by and he’s said nothing.”

Thankfully though, the parrot didn’t have to serve any “jail time” after his visit to the Teresina Police Department: GloboNews, a Brazilian news outlet, noted that the parrot was transported to a nearby zoo, where zookeepers will take care of it and teach it how to fly.
